after holding out for several weeks (well ok, I guess it’s just been two), I finally picked up the new wild flag album yesterday. and have already listened to it about five times. I’m not really sure why I wasn’t super stoked about it’s release. or about wild flag in general. I guess it’s that I lost interest in sleater-kinney about 3 albums ago.

but when I recently saw quasi open up for pavement on their reunion tour, I was reminded of what a freaking awesome drummer janet weiss is. and I’ve always adored helium, more specifically even, ms. mary timony. and then there was the first season of portlandia which reunited me with one of the great crushes of my life, carrie brownstein. so naturally after reading yet another super great review for the self titled wild flag record, I figured I needed to see what all the fuss was about. and now I get it.

the album rocks. like it’s probably the most rockin’ female fronted album I’ve heard all year. and now, not only do I own the record, but I also promptly purchased tickets to see four women over 35 play their hearts out when they stop through san francisco in november. and I cannot wait!
