never coming home…
listening to alice in chains and packing for seattle…*please note these are not my clothes. I do not own leather mini shorts. or an electric guitar :(
once again, the independent spirit awards did not disappoint.
I’ll still be watching tomorrow night, but for me, this is the one that mattered.
friends! just in case you’ve been living under a rock, portlandia is back!
and am I ever pleased. we’re trying to cram in as many oscar contenders as we can manage before sunday and finally watched gravity (or “excruciating” as I kept referring to it) which I just barely made it through. the season premiere of portlandia was a much welcomed chaser, and I don’t think it was just the fact that I needed something light that made me think it was one of the most well written and funniest episodes yet. let’s just say that I didn’t expect to see one of my fave ladies, kiki dunst, starring in the opening skit. carrie and fred, it’s been too long!
we all have them. days where you fall in love with your city/home town/neighborhood all over again. like the first time you notice how incredible the architecture of a building is that you’ve walked passed a hundred times before. I had one of those moments today. well, all day really. everything just… flowed. and it was almost artificially sunny and beautiful out. and everyone I came into contact with seemed unusually yet sincerely friendly. and I felt oddly content. and grateful.
it’s kinda funny that these days don’t happen more often. then again, maybe I wouldn’t appreciate it as much if they did.
had way too much fun with my cousin last night, drinking vodka sodas, taking photobooth pics, and pushing our way to the front until we were just a couple feet from one of my current favorite rock n’ roll babes. after last night’s show, my mild crush on colleen green has turn full blown. she is the cutest and the coolest and makes me wish I was ten years younger and that we were pals and could go on a cross-country road trip together and sing along to crappy radio at the top of our lungs and eat sour straws and drink cheap champagne and wear sunglasses at night and yeah… I heart CG.
pretty excited about seeing this rad lady tomorrow night.
I’ve had her latest release, sock it to me, on repeat in my car for the last two weeks so I’m pretty stoked to finally see these songs that have been stuck in my head performed live. if you’re not busy and have an extra $15 to spare, check it out… all ages and not sold out!
the one thing that can be a bit of a drag about visiting my folks - but also simultaneously kinda hilarious - is the now routine bag/box of my old stuff that is usually sneakily stashed away in the trunk of our car to be discovered much later after returning home. old yearbooks, framed photos of high school sweethearts, elementary school awards & ribbons, you name it, if it at one time belonged to one of his now adult aged children, my dad wants it out of his house. and I don’t blame him, the majority of this stuff they’ve been holding onto for 20+ years is basically junk. though occasionally there’s the rare gem that I’m truly glad they never tossed.
today we traveled back to oakland with a vintage steiff monkey my mom insisted I reclaim ownership of. why now, and why this particular monkey (which I don’t personally recall being a member the group of stuffed animals I hung around with), I’m not exactly sure. but what I am sure of, is my mom’s blatant concern over the well being of “jocko”. she has already sent me several texts involving where I will be housing the monkey and in what proximity this will be to our two cats (who in her defense, do have a tendency to FSU). why this monkey is now in our possession is still a little perplexing. but regardless, he is. and our apartment and it’s multiple collections of tchotchkes continues to get a little creepier every day. thanks mom!
such a great valentines gift to America yesterday.
thank you ellen for finding the courage.
you are so rad.
